Welcome from Interim Superintendent Brad Johnson

Dear Wadena, Deer Creek, and Bluffton Students, Families, Staff, and Community Members,

It is with great enthusiasm and a deep sense of responsibility that I introduce myself as your Interim Superintendent for the 2026-2027 school year. I am truly honored to join the Wadena-Deer Creek school district—a community known for its dedicated educators, hardworking students, and families who share a strong commitment to excellence and community pride.

This year marks my 36th year in education, a journey that includes 13 years in the classroom as a mathematics teacher and coach, and 23 years in administration, with this being my 7th year serving as a superintendent. Throughout nearly four decades in public education, my core philosophy has remained unchanged: our students are the most important resource in the world. It is my foundational goal to provide a solid, high-quality education that allows all students to thrive and grow into productive, capable, and caring citizens.

As I step into this leadership role, my priority is to listen, learn, and collaborate with all stakeholders across our three wonderful communities of Wadena, Deer Creek, and Bluffton. I believe in open communication, shared leadership, and maintaining a culture of respect, trust, and continuous improvement. By working alongside our talented staff, committed school board, and engaged families, I know we can build upon WDC’s distinct strengths and keep moving our district forward together.

An Open Invitation to Partner With Us

A truly successful school district relies on the partnership of the community it serves. To that end, I want you to know that I maintain an open-door policy.

  • Visit the Office: I invite you to stop by the district office to share your concerns, offer your ideas, or simply fill me in on the good things happening with our students and staff.

  • Connect in the Community: Education extends far beyond the school walls. I look forward to meeting many of you out around town, at our athletic games, and during our various school activities. Please feel free to pull me aside and introduce yourself.

Thank you for the warm welcome to the district and for your continued partnership. Together, let’s make the 2026-2027 school year a highly successful, safe, and memorable one for all of our Wolverine students.

With appreciation,

Brad Johnson

Interim Superintendent
