Guest author Kevin Lovegreen kicks off 'I Love to Read Month'
WDC PreK-6 students kicked off "I LOVE TO READ MONTH" with a visit from guest author Kevin Lovegreen who "lured" kids in with his awesome presentation about his love of the outdoors and writing outdoor adventure books!
Born and raised in Minnesota, Lovegreen told WDC students that hunting, fishing, and the outdoors have always been a big part of his life. From chasing squirrels as a child to chasing elk as an adult, the passion for hunting has always been with him, but even more, he loves telling the stories of the adventures.
Lovegreen, who began writing about eight years ago, has written an award-winning children's book series recounting these hunting experiences in Lucky Luke's Hunting Adventures. His first book entitled, Lucky Luke's Hunting Adventures: The Swamp, follows a "finally old enough" Luke as he joins his family on his first whitetail deer hunt. Readers follow Luke as morning approaches and he enters a northern Minnesota swamp, where he finds adventure and nature at every turn in the trail.
"Hunting has given me so many gifts, time with my family and friends and a love and respect of the outdoors," Lovegreen said. "These books let me share mine and my families' hunting experiences and my hope is to show children the magic of the outdoors."
Lovegreen has written 10 books and is currently working on his 11th book.
To welcome Lovegreen, WDC students wore camouflage or blaze orange, much to the author's delight. After Lovegreen's presentation, students were fired up to read, write and appreciate the outdoors!
Lovegreen's author visit was made possible thanks to the Lamson Trust of the First Congregational United Church of Christ. Thank you! #WolverineGratitude
