WDC FCCLA members visit state capitol, shadow legislators
Six Family, Career, & Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) members visited the state capitol on Feb. 11 to attend MN FCCLA Legislative Shadow Day.
The group was fortunate to get to meet Gwen Walz, Minnesota's First Lady. Mrs. Walz met with the nearly 50 FCCLA members from throughout the state. She spoke to them about her experiences as a FHA member when she was a high school student in Ivanhoe. She shared that some of her success today is a result of lessons learned in Future Homemakers of America (FCCLA was formerly known as FHA).
Walz told the FCCLA members: Work hard, have a Plan B, be yourself, and don't be afraid to be "all in." She also described what the process of moving into the Governor's mansion has been like.
Students spent the afternoon shadowing individual state representatives. Elliot Doyle shadowed Rep. Dave Baker, Morgan Grangruth shadowed Rep. Lisa Demuth, Casey Bounds shadowed Rep. Jeanne Poppe, Angela LeComte shadowed Rep. Bud Nornes, Emma Mehl shadowed Rep. Ron Kresha, and Frannie Bakken shadowed Rep. Steve Sandell.
