BPA members participate at State, Hinojos advances to Nationals
Four members of the Wadena-Deer Creek chapter of Business Professionals of America (BPA) participated in the State Leadership Conference held March 12 and 13 at the Hyatt Regency in Minneapolis, along with advisor Nancy Peterson.
The conference provides the students with the opportunity to compete in a variety of workplace skill assessments.
Results from the State BPA Conference are as follows:
· Maddy Hinojos, 1st place, Legal Office Procedures
· Elise Kallevig, 7th place, Interview Skills and 15th place, Fundamental Word Processing
· Jessica Langer, 11th place, Advanced Interview Skills
· Ashley Peters, Top 20, Keyboarding
Hinojos, a senior, has qualified for the National Leadership Conference May 6-9 in Anaheim, Calif. She said it’s such an honor to represent WDC at the national conference.
“It will be a rewarding and exciting experience to face competition at the national level in Legal Office Procedures. I can’t wait to go!” said Hinojos.
Hinojos will compete at the national BPA conference in the “Legal Office Procedures” category. This event evaluates a student on their knowledge of legal terminology, the skills needed to prepare legal documents, and how to function effectively in a law office. At competitions, students take a multiple-choice test to assess their competency and format a couple documents on a computer.
BPA Advisor Nancy Peterson said students spend many hours preparing for BPA competitions.
“They all put in a great deal of time and effort in BPA activities and participating at State is a well-deserved recognition of their talents. Experiencing BPA’s National Leadership Conference is the culmination of the BPA year, a reward for the hard work put into competitions. We are proud to have Maddy representing WDC,” said Peterson.
Peterson is in her last year as BPA advisor, a position she’s held for the last four years. She plans to retire from teaching after 31 years as the business/marketing teacher at WDC.
