NHS students organize shoe drive for Haiti
Four Wadena-Deer Creek students are taking a small step toward addressing poverty in Haiti by organizing a shoe drive.
Kendra Evans, Briana Malone, Kassi Peterson and Hannah Vorderbruggen are National Honor Society (NHS) students who chose the Soles4Souls charity shoe drive as their global NHS project.
“Through this global service project, we hope to make a small difference to people in need in Haiti,” said Malone, adding that Haitian families have been ravaged by natural disasters in recent years.
The NHS students are asking WDC Middle/High School students to look in their closets for shoes they may not wear anymore and donate them to Soles4Souls. They are accepting all kinds of shoes (with the exception of high heels) and all youth and adult sizes. Shoes should be in good condition and a matching pair.
Collection boxes will be placed in first-hour classrooms. If any community members would like to make a donation, please drop your shoes off at the school office.
WDC’s Soles4Soul shoe drive runs from Feb. 10 to 27.
