WDC's one-act to perform 'The Chair Play' on Jan. 22
Wadena-Deer Creek High School’s drama department will present a public performance of their one-act play, “The Chair Play” on Thursday, Jan. 22 at 7:30 p.m. in the Wadena Memorial Auditorium. Admission is free.
When asked how they would describe this year’s one-act play, the student cast said: “It’s a play about ‘Have’s and Have Not’s… It’s about the pursuit of power, which oftentimes is not glorious.”
Director Jay Patterson and the student cast are being somewhat tight-lipped when it comes to giving away the one-act play’s storyline. But they did divulge at the conclusion of the play, all the chairs are gone.
When Mr. Patterson initially previewed the play, he thought it was very different, yet a challenging selection for his students. “It was definitely out of my comfort zone,” he said.
“The Chair Play" is written by a New Hampshire drama teacher, Alan Haehnel.
The public performance serves as a warm-up for subsection competition on Saturday, Jan. 24 at Wadena Memorial Auditorium. Six schools -- Bertha-Hewitt, Browerville, Eagle Valley, Parkers Prairie and Pillager and WDC -- are competing to advance to the sectional contest the following Saturday, Jan. 31. Each play is limited to 35 minutes.
