WDC teachers attend Dr. Robert Marzano workshop
Brainerd, Minn. - More than 70 teachers and administrators from WDC Schools spent the morning of August 28 at a workshop that featured one of the world’s top education researcher and author, Dr. Robert Marzano.
Over 500 educators from WDC, Brainerd, Little Falls, Browerville, Eagle Valley, Menahga, Pine River-Backus and Verndale gathered at Madden's near Brainerd to hear Dr. Marzano’s message about the importance of academic rigor and how that ultimately impacts student achievement.
The Marzano workshop was sponsored by National Joint Powers Alliance (NJPA) in Staples, Minn., WDC’s local service cooperative made up of member school districts and municipalities from Region 5, of which WDC is a member.
This workshop was especially meaningful for WDC teachers as Dr. Marzano’s research and learning strategies provide the foundation for lesson development, learning goals and teacher development at WDC. WDC Superintendent Lee Westrum was very pleased with the workshop.
“Dr. Marzano reinforced many of the concepts that we have been learning and emphasizing in our professional learning communities and in our district-level staff development as well,” said Supt. Westrum. “It was an outstanding workshop. I can't thank NJPA enough for bringing a speaker the caliber of Dr. Marzano to central Minnesota and making him accessible to our entire teaching staff.”
