WDC NHS students organize summer blood drive
Wadena-Deer Creek High School’s National Honor Society (NHS) members held a summer blood drive today (Aug. 12), where the community rolled up their sleeves to help save lives.
WDC seniors Carrie Nelson and Maddy Hinojos coordinated the blood drive as their community-service project for NHS. They pre-registered donors and recruited NHS members to help serve as “blood buddies” for the drive. Their goal was 45 to 50 units of blood during the six-hour blood drive.
“The majority of our donors are from the community, which is great. Plus, we have a handful of students who’ve signed up to donate too,” said Nelson, who learned from Red Cross that every 2 seconds, someone in the United States needs blood – a staggering statistic.
The American Red Cross team set up their mobile site in the WDC Middle/High School Commons from 1 to 7 p.m. The WDC chapter of NHS is made up of juniors and seniors.
