WDC Schools takes part in statewide tornado drill today
While big, wet snowflakes fell from the sky Thursday afternoon, Wadena-Deer Creek Elementary and Middle/High School participated in the statewide tornado drill at 1:45 p.m.
The preschool through fourth-grade students and staff took shelter in different areas of the elementary school and grades 5-12 students and staff filed into the Auxiliary Gymnasium. The gymnasium serves as a storm shelter for the school and was built with FEMA funding in 2012 after WDC High School was severely damaged by a tornado on June 17, 2010.
According to WDC Grades 5-12 Principal Tyler Church, the drill went very well and students did a great job of being orderly and followed instructions.
The drill is part of Minnesota’s Severe Weather Awareness Week.
