First-graders visit Wadena Post Office
Wadena-Deer Creek first-grade students recently visited the Wadena Post Office. Their visit was a culmination of a week-long project where students learned about the parts of a friendly letter, such as the date, greeting, body, closing, and signature. Then, students wrote a letter to someone they knew. The parents provided the address. Included in the letter was a note asking the recipient to send a letter back, so students hope to have lots of return mail coming to school!
The first-graders were excited to see the inside of the post office, including the back room where the letters get sorted and put into local boxes or bags for shipping. The students then got to see their letters loaded onto the big mail truck. Wadena Postmaster Jeff Zimmerman also provided each student with two free stamps to use on future letters.
