WDC students attend We Day rally today in St. Paul
Wadena-Deer Creek High School students are in St. Paul today where they are joining 18,000 other teens for the second annual Minnesota We Day celebration.
This is a day of motivational speakers and performers who will talk to the students about the importance of community service. Last year, WDC attended We Day for the first time.
This year, 23 students in grades 9-12 who represent several service organizations, such as Student Council, NHS, FCCLA, BPA, as well as class officers, are at the rally held in St. Paul’s Xcel Energy Center.
Those students include: Jennifer Craig, Kendra Evans, Mikena Formanek, Angela Grecco, Maddy Hinojos, Autumn Jahnke, Elise Kallevig, Jessica Langer, Rylie Langer, Briana Malone, Sam Manselle, Carrie Nelson, Mikaela Nordlund, Hope Norenberg, Ryan Olson, Kassi Peterson, Jarrett Pettit, Kelsie Pierce, Danyel Post, Beth Schmitz, Lauren Soroko, Austin Sutherland and Hannah Vorderbruggen. Chaperones are WDC teachers Rachel Bounds and Dawn Hamelau.
This year’s We Day features a lineup of inspirational speakers and celebrities ranging from Kweku Mandala, the grandson of former South African President Nelson Mandela, to actor Martin Sheen to astronaut Eileen Collins.
Since the first We Day Minnesota last fall, students from more than 500 schools in the state have participated in one local and one global project, which in turn gave them a ticket to the We Day celebration.
