Bake-&-Take Camp a sweet success!
Ten youths learned how to bake from scratch recently as part of the Bake and Take Camp. The camp was part of Wadena Summer Rec program, which is sponsored by Wadena-Deer Creek-Bluffton Youth Community Education.
Wadena-Deer Creek High School teacher Lois Schulz shared her baking expertise with the young girls during the four two-hour sessions, June 10-13.
Each day, the students who ranged in ages 8 to 12, baked an item at WDC Middle/High School FACS room. The baked goodies included: banana bread, chocolate cake with chocolate frosting, chocolate-chip cookies and fresh rhubarb cream pie.
The young bakers had a great time learning how to properly measure their ingredients, mix, sift, slice and use a rolling pin. But the best part was taking their baked goods home for their families to taste and enjoy.
“Baking is an activity I do at home with my own daughters and they love it,” said Schulz. “It’s a great way to do something with your kids and a skill they can continue throughout their lifetime.”
