WDC FCCLA attends Fall Conference
by Cindi Koll, FCCLA co-advisor
To kick off the year, Wadena-Deer Creek’s Family, Career & Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) members attended the Minnesota FCCLA Region 6 Conference, Oct. 9 in Wheaton. Approximately 150 FCCLAers from the region were in attendance.
Phenomenal keynote speaker, Renae Groskreutz shared with the attendees her personal story of her son who was a victim of Shaken Baby Syndrome and her daughter who was killed in a motorcycle accident. Her message stressed the value of good decision-making and forgiveness.
Each delegate had the opportunity to attend two round-table sessions on a variety of national FCCLA programs. WDC sophomore Angela Torkkola, Region 6 vice president, presented round-table sessions on the FACTS (Families Acting for Community Traffic Safety) program. WDC senior Shania Lannes and sophomore Hope Norenberg, FCCLA Peer Educators, presented sessions on the Student Body and Career Connections projects.
WDC eighth-graders Hayley Maloney and Lyndsay Frisch attended the chapter leadership training.
Members returned with lots of ideas for projects to work on for the remainder of the year.
