WDC National Honor Society inducts new members
Wadena-Deer Creek High School’s National Honor Society (NHS) held its induction ceremony and reception Monday, Sept. 30 in the Robertson Theater at WDC Middle/High School.
New inductees were Brandee Bly, Jennifer Craig, Maddy Hinojos, Wesley Janson, Elise Kallevig, Carrie Nelson and Morgan Zeise.
The ceremony featured a traditional candle-lighting ceremony followed by dessert. Speakers were NHS students Austin Hendershot, Abby Wegscheid, Ashley Carlson and Ricky Price. They spoke on the four pillars of NHS—character, leadership, service, and scholarship.
The National Honor Society is more than being on the Honor Roll. NHS members must exhibit the four qualities – character, scholarship, leadership and service -- in their daily lives. Students must have a 3.5 cumulative GPA to be considered for the scholarship criteria. Membership in NHS is for juniors and seniors.
NHS is also a service organization. All members are expected to work on various community service projects throughout the year. Some of the past NHS projects are: Day of Caring, Meals on Wheels, Food Shelf, snow shoveling, adopt-a-grandparent, and blood drive. NHS advisors are Rachel Bounds and Kelly Shrode.
