Summer Rec Camps

To keep our kids busy all this summer, Wadena Youth Community Education is offering additional camps in June, July and August. On registration form, register under SUMMER REC CAMPS.


Wolverine Football Camp

The camp will cover offensive and defensive fundamentals within specific positioned groups, as well as prepare athletes for focused training throughout the summer. Cleats, T-shirts and shorts needed for camp.

Entering Grades 9-12

jon koenigs TENNIS CAMP

Wadena Summer Rec is excited to have Jon Koenigs, a tennis professional from Spring Lake Park, Minn., returning to share his expertise in teaching our youth about tennis during this three-day afternoon camp.

Open to youth entering grades 3-6

WDC HS Tennis Courts




A hands-on golfing skills camp taught by golf professional Kevin Ross. Learn grips, chipping, swinging techniques and more. Bring your clubs. If you don’t have any, clubs will be provided. Camp held at White Tail Run Golf Course.

Camp will introduce youth to the sport, as well as develop skills in kids who have wrestled. WDC wrestling coach and varsity wrestlers will run camp.

WDC head boys basketball coach Kevin Tumberg and his varsity players will teach fundamentals of basketball – from ball handling to shooting and more! Good sportsmanship is part of the program too. Held at WDC Middle/High School Gym.

Soccer Camp

Play one of the most popular games in the world! Learn ball control, shooting, passing, dribbling, defending, scoring and more.

Trap Shooting

NEW! Class designed for the beginner and experienced shooter. WDC Trap Coach Mike Kenney will provide an introduction to trap shooting for new shooters and an opportunity for practice for seasoned shooters. Participants are required to have a Firearm Safety Certificate. Bring copy to first day of class. Registration fee includes clay targets and use of the range. Participant is to provide their own shells and firearm.

Beginning Archery Camp

Wadena veteran archery enthusiast Elroy Podratz will share his expertise on the rules, etiquette and proper technique for shooting archery. Bows and equipment provided. Wear tennis shoes, no flip flops. Class size limited.

Cooking Camps

Avid cook and teacher Lois Schulz is offering a variety of yummy cooking camps this summer. Kids will not only cook these meals, but also bring home their creations! Open to youth entering grades 5-12. Held at WDC Middle/High School. $20 each.

Camp Wanna-Sew

This class will teach kids everything they need to get started sewing -- thread the machine, load the bobbin, sew straight lines/corners and make a pillowcase to keep. Advanced Quilting Camp

Math Train


Solve math problems while having fun with this exciting and imaginative learning playset. Use the train, figures and activities to solve simple addition and subtraction problems and learn about the world of numbers.

Creative LEGO Playtime

Ages 3–5

Stimulate a love for creative exploration with LEGO Bricks. The wide range of bricks and elements naturally inspires the imaginations of preschoolers and awakens their desire to learn through playful experiences. Come play with us!

Tech Machines


The perfect introduction to science and technology. Children become small engineers and discover how screws, hooks, scoops and other machine elements work with hands-on play and learning.

This 4-day camp is a great way for boys and girls to try out robotics, programing and design for the first time using the LEGO Mindstorms NXT kits. Lots of hands-on engineering and problem-solving in this camp taught by Derek Plautz and Andrew McCullough, WDC robotics team members.

WDC Elementary School




Learn how to build different types of robots, such as an intelligent car, robotics hand, scorpian, tri-bot, rover and more! This camp is more advanced and will engage campers in product design, tech challenges, team games, and open-ended creativity. Instructor is Nick DeVillers, WDC IT specialist, along with robotics team members.

Nature Walks

NEW! Enjoy going on guided nature walks with outdoors enthusiast/bird-watcher Carol Brandt. Youth will go to Black’s Grove, Green Island, Tapley Park and Old Wadena. If time allows, a hands-on project will be included. Transportation will be provided. Meet in the elementary cafeteria for pickup and drop-off.  Bring binoculars and water bottle. Wear good shoes (no flip flops), light-color clothing, long sleeves and pants. Bug/tick repellent will be provided.

Back-to-School Beauty Camp

Channel your inner beauty with this fun hands-on camp! Youth will make beauty products such as facials, lip gloss and more! Class size limited. Instructor: Elsie Schmidt. Elementary Art Room #46. Instructor: Elsie Schmidt.
