'Sam's Motor' scholarship raffle


Wadena-Deer Creek Middle/High School office has tickets available for the Sam Kelderman Technology & Engineering Scholarship raffle.

There is an amazing story behind this awesome GM marine motor being raffled, which took 1 1/2 years to build by WDC students Brady Adams (Sam's best friend) and Chris Hahn with guidance from WDC teacher Mike Shrode. This engine is truly beautiful and one-of-a-kind with autographs from Dave Kindig and Kev Dogg!

For more information on the motor, call Mike Shrode at (320) 815-7886. The Wadena Elks Lodge is also helping sell tickets, which are $20 each. Winner will be drawn on Nov. 19, 2018 and need not be present to win.

FALL SPORTS NIGHT, AUG. 9, physicals need to be up-to-date!


The Wadena-Deer Creek Athletic Department will host its Grades 7-12 Fall Sports Meeting on Thursday, August 9 at 6 p.m. in the Commons at Wadena-Deer Creek Middle/High School.

Student-athletes (and their parents) who plan to participate in any sports this school year are invited to attend; however, those athletes in fall sports (cross country, football, volleyball and girls' tennis) are required to attend.

Parents and student-athletes will fill out mandatory paperwork and pay fees which are required before athletes are able to start practice. They will also get a chance to meet with coaches.

Up-to-date physicals must be on file before athletes are allowed to participate in any practices. Physicals are good for three years.

Athletic fees are $30 per sport for grades 7-8; and $50 per sport for grades 9-12.

Cross Country and Tennis practice for student-athletes entering grades 7-12 start on Aug. 13. Football and Volleyball practice for students entering grades 9-12 will also begin on Aug. 13. Grades 7-8 student-athletes participating in football and volleyball will begin practice on Aug. 20.

Notice of Filing Dates for School Board Election

Anyone wishing to file for the office of the Wadena-Deer Creek School Board may file their affidavit of candidacy starting on July 31 and closing at 5 p.m. on Aug. 14.


The general election will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2018. Three members will be elected to the School Board for terms of four years. Current board members with expiring terms are Jil Fiemeyer, Ann Pate and Wayne Perkins.

Affidavits of candidacy are available from the school district clerk at the Wadena-Deer Creek Middle/High School located at 600 Colfax Ave SW, Wadena MN. The filing fee is $2. 

A candidate for this office must be 21 years of age and older, must be a resident of the school district for 30 days before the general election, and must have no other affadavit on file for any other office at the same primary or next general election.

The affidavits of candidacy must be filed in the office of the school district clerk and the filing fee paid prior to 5 p.m. on Aug. 14, 2018.



Take advantage of the free breakfast and lunch for youth 18 and under at the Wadena-Deer Creek Middle/High School cafeteria and Deer Creek School cafeteria this summer.

The lunches are provided free thanks to a federal grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

WDC MS/HS hours: 7:30-8:30am for breakfast and 11am-1pm for lunch.  

A parent or anyone over 18 eats lunch, cost is $4.

WDC's Produce Stand will open on Tuesdays this summer from 9 a.m. to noon! The stand is located between the two greenhouses. First come, first serve!
