Subsection Track & Field Meet at Perham on May 24 has changed the start time from 4 p.m. to 1 p.m. so as to finish before the forecasted thunderstorms. Field events at 1pm and running at 1:30pm

As a result, the WDC Varsity Track Team will be dismissed to eat at 10:53am with the 5-6 graders. Bus will leave at 11:15am.

Gr 9-12 Students honored at Recognition Breakfast

Wadena-Deer Creek High School held its annual Academic Recognition Breakfast May 23 in the Commons. Students in grades 9-12 were recognized for academics and for their extra efforts in school and in the community.

The program started with students enjoying an egg bake, caramel rolls and juice prepared by the WDC Middle/High School Food Services.

The academic portion of the breakfast kicked off the program. This is for students in the sophomore, junior and senior classes, who have specific grade-point averages as criteria to receive this high honor. All of the students recognized received a certificate of scholastic achievement. Students who were honored for the first time received an academic badge and students who have previously received a badge received a star.

Sophomores (3.85 GPA or higher): Frannie Bakken, Maggie Carlson, Sean Carlson, MacKenzie Carsten, Kennedy Gravelle, Lucas Hinojos, Laura Krause, Bereket Loer, Cole Pearson, Lleyten Pettit, Lexi Pierce, Michael Schmidt, Kamea Shreves, Courtny Warren, Hailey Wiederich and Jasmyn Wood.

Juniors (3.7 GPA or higher): Ashley Adams, Wyatt Hamann, Kylee Hopp, Elissa Ikola, Sophie Kreklau, Alec Larson, Samantha Malone, Abby Motschenbacher, MacKenzie Salge and Leah Spilman.

Seniors (3.6 GPA or higher): Emily Benson, Jordan Brink, Lucas Doyle, Mason Evans, Kirstan Finn, Henry Fitzsimmons, Matt Goeden, Ryan Grendahl, Katlyn Heaton, Andreena Johnson-Hall, Tabitha Janke-Gregory, Lindy Jones, Alex Kahl, Lila Lohmiller, Tiffany Meeks, Ellie Miron, Thomas Quincer, Noah Ross, Kate Schmidt, Bel Snyder, RaeAnn Sutherland, Emma Taggart, Casey Volkmann, Preston Warren and Abby Westrum.

WDC’s foreign exchange students were presented with certificates of attendance. They included: Carla Bukowski, Wei Po Chang (Weber), Jacopo Della Latta, Olga Dessole, Joao Dias, Julia Freitas, Marleen Gari, Lucia Gaudioso, Tobias Grillmeier (Toby), Gloria Iacona, Mike Mangold, Federica Marilungo, Rukpa Ramankul (Moopa), Carlotta Repp, Elima Satybaldieva, Alessia Sgariglia, Sanrutai (Kam), Shasho Unrau, Jeronimo Vallarta and Hsian Hsun Wang (Alden).

WDC junior Samantha Malone received the 2018 Norman Borlaug Science Achievement Award. This is presented to a junior student for outstanding achievement in science and agriculture.

The AAA Award recipients Casey Volkmann and Noah Ross were recognized as the one senior boy and one senior girl who've excelled in the classroom, on the athletic field, and in the fine arts.

The ExCEL award recipients Sophie Kreklau and Wyatt Hamann were recognized as the one junior boy and one junior girl who have excelled in and outside the classroom.

Seniors Ryan Anderson and Mitchel Haman were recognized for the National Joint Power Alliance (NJPA) Student Recognition Award they received in April. NJPA gives this award to students who have worked hard and excelled behind the scenes to accomplish the necessary tasks and have helped their school and classmates be better.

The Chuck Tranby Special Olympics Award was presented to Bobby Olson. This award was established by the Tranby family to recognize a Special Olympics student-athlete. Mrs. Kraska presented Bobby with this award.

ELEMENTARY ACADEMIC BOOSTERS: Summer Academic Boosters is available to WDC students in grades 1-4 from 8am to 2pm on the following dates at no cost:  June 4-7, June 11-14, June 18-21. Academic Booster participants learn, strength and maintain reading, writing, math and social skills throughout the summer. Breakfast and lunch provided free of charge. SUMMER SCHOOL FOR GRADES 5 AND 6: WDC youth in grades 5 and 6 will have an opportunity to sign up for Summer School. Those dates are: June 4-7, June 11-14, June 18-21 in Mr. Martin's room. If interested, please contact Mr. Martin at 632-2316.

SUMMER SCHOOL FOR GRADES 7 AND 8: WDC is offering summer school classes for students needing extra help on June 11-15 and 18-22.  If interested, please contact Mr. Church at 632-2172.


WOLVERINE GOLF SCRAMBLE, JUNE 8: Join us for WDC's annual Wolverine Scramble! Sign up for 4-person team or as a corporate sponsor. 18 holes of golf, cart and meal. Prizes for top three places. Silent auction featuring a variety of sports memorabilia and items donated by area businesses. This is a fundraiser for WDC Activities.  Wolverine indoor track

WDC Middle/High School INDOOR TRACK HOURS: M-F: 6am-7:30am and 3:15pm to 8:30pm until track season is outdoors.  Nine times around the track equals 1 mile! The public is invited to enjoy our indoor track. There may be days it is closed due to games, tournaments or cleaning. Thank you for your cooperation!
